West Coast Karate Shines at the 2025 Australian Karate Championships
West Coast Karate is proud to celebrate the outstanding performances of its athletes at the 2025 Australian Karate Championships, held in Geelong, Victoria, from 11–13 July 2025. The Championships brought together Australia’s best karate athletes, all competing for national titles and selection opportunities for future international events.
Despite being a relatively small club, West Coast Karate once again demonstrated that it can compete with the very best, producing outstanding performances from Hannah Sullivan, Nathaniel and Tim.
Hannah Sullivan Retains National Title
Hannah Sullivan continued her outstanding form by successfully defending her Australian National Championship in the Senior Women’s +68 kilogram Kumite division.
Already recognised as one of Australia’s leading female karate athletes, Hannah once again demonstrated the skill, composure and determination that have become the hallmarks of her career. Winning back-to-back national titles further cemented her position at the top of Australian women’s karate and strengthened her credentials for future international selection.
Hannah’s success at the National Championships was another important milestone in a remarkable season that would ultimately see her represent Australia at the World Games, the World University Championships, the Karate World Cup and other major international events.
Nathaniel Cowey Continues His Rise
Fifteen-year-old Nathaniel Cowey produced another impressive performance, demonstrating why he is regarded as one of Australia’s most promising young karate athletes.
Competing against the country’s best junior competitors, Nathaniel displayed excellent technical ability, determination and maturity beyond his years. His performance at the National Championships added to an outstanding season and confirmed that he is developing into one of Australia’s exciting future prospects.
Nathaniel’s continued success at national level has since led to international competition and selection to represent Australia on the world stage.
Tim Impresses at National Level
Tim also represented West Coast Karate with distinction, producing determined performances throughout the Championships.
Competing at a National Championship requires months of disciplined preparation and the willingness to challenge Australia’s strongest competitors. Tim’s commitment, sportsmanship and competitive spirit reflected the values that West Coast Karate seeks to develop in every athlete.
His participation contributed to another successful National Championships for the club and demonstrated the depth of talent continuing to emerge from West Coast Karate.
Success Built Through Commitment
The achievements of Hannah, Nathaniel and Tim are the result of years of disciplined training, quality coaching and the unwavering support of their families and teammates.
While medals are always celebrated, the willingness to prepare, improve and represent Western Australia with pride is equally important. Every athlete who competes at a National Championship gains valuable experience that contributes to their long-term development.

West Coast Karate continues to prove that a small club can develop high performace athletes capable of competing successfully at the highest level of Australian karate.
The performances of Hannah Sullivan, Nathaniel and Tim at the 2025 Australian Karate Championships are a reflection of the club’s commitment to excellence, its experienced coaching team and the dedication of its students.
